Mikko Rantanen had a goal and two assists, Nathan MacKinnon scored a tiebreaking goal midway through the third period, and the Colorado Avalanche rallied to beat the Boston Bruins 6-3 in Denver on Wednesday night.
Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Calvert, Tyson Jost and Alexander Kerfoot also had goals for Colorado, which tallied four times in the third period for the win. Semyon Varlamov stopped 20 shots.
Jake DeBrusk scored two goals and David Pastrnak had a goal and an assist for the Bruins. Jaroslav Halak had 19 saves.
Boston (10-6-2) lost defenseman Zdeno Chara to a lower-body injury in the first period, and he did not return.
Colorado (9-6-3) trailed by two goals early in the second period but rallied. Rantanen cut into the lead with a power-play goal at 8:47 of the second. It was his seventh of the season.
Calvert tied it 2:11 into the third period with his second goal of the season.
The game stayed tied until Rantanen brought the puck into the Boston zone and feathered a pass to MacKinnon coming down the right side. MacKinnon beat Halak for his 12th goal of the season at 9:02. MacKinnon also had an assist on Rantanen's earlier goal.
Jost sealed it when he poked in a loose puck sitting behind Halak for a power-play goal at 15:39.
Halak went off for an extra skater with 4:08 left remaining, but Boston took a hooking penalty late. Kerfoot scored a power-play goal with 14.8 seconds left.
The Avalanche struck first on Landeskog's goal -- his 12th -- midway through the first period. It stayed that way until Pastrnak scored on the power play to tie it at 16:43 of the first period.
It was Pastrnak's league-leading 17th goal of the season.
Boston got a break late in the first when MacKinnon's drop pass was intercepted by DeBrusk at Colorado's blue line. DeBrusk's breakaway goal gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead at 19:20 of the first.
DeBrusk gave Boston a 3-1 lead early in the second period with another power-play goal. It was his seventh of the season.
