Artemi Panarin scored the deciding goal in a shootout as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Thursday at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, to snap a two-game losing streak.
Panarin was the only one of the six shooters to find the net in the tiebreaker. Columbus goaltender Joonas Korpisalo turned away all three Dallas shots, including the final one by Tyler Seguin to clinch the win.
Jordan Schroeder and Tyler Motte, two players who have spent the majority of the season in the AHL, combined for the Blue Jackets' lone goal in regulation. Korpisalo, Columbus's backup netminder, made sure that tally was enough until the final minutes of regulation.
Schroeder, who was recalled from the AHL's Cleveland Barons on Dec. 13, put the Columbus on top at the 12:23 mark of the opening period when he capitalized on a deflected clearing attempt and banged in the loose puck from the slot for his first goal as a Blue Jacket. Motte, who was recalled from Cleveland on Thursday, was granted an assist on the score.
Dallas' Alexander Radulov tied the game with 2:05 remaining in the third period off assists by John Klingberg and Jamie Benn. A spectacular glove save by Ben Bishop with 30 seconds remaining kept it that way and allowed the Stars to secure one point in the match.
Dallas saw its two-game road win streak snapped. Since the Stars were beaten 2-1 by the Blue Jackets in Dallas on Jan. 2, they had won four of five games, with a six-day break in the middle.
The Blue Jackets had lost their past two matches at Buffalo and to Vancouver, the worst two teams in the NHL.
Korpisalo turned away 35 shots and denied Dallas on four power plays. Bishop stopped 25 shots and did not allow a goal in three Columbus power plays, including one during overtime.
Next up for Dallas is a road match at Buffalo on Saturday afternoon. Columbus has four days off before playing at Las Vegas on Tuesday.
