Rangers 4, Flyers 1: Martin St. Louis and defenseman Dan Girardi each collected a goal and an assist and Henrik Lundqvist finished with 31 saves as visiting New York seized a 2-1 lead in its Eastern Conference first-round series.
Derek Stepan also tallied and Dan Carcillo burned his former team by capping the scoring midway through the third period. Rick Nash notched two assists for the Rangers, who won a franchise-best 25 games on the road this season - tops in the Eastern Conference.
Ray Emery yielded four goals on 20 shots before being relieved by Steve Mason (three saves), who had been sidelined since April 12 with an undisclosed upper-body injury. Defenseman Mark Streit scored a 4-on-4 goal for Philadelphia, which hosts Game 4 on Friday.
Nash's sharp-angle shot from deep in the left circle caromed off the glove of Emery, allowing Stepan to chip the puck into the net at the right post to open the scoring 3:54 into the contest. St. Louis' deft deflection of Girardi's shot from the point doubled the advantage midway into the session before Streit trimmed the deficit nearly seven minutes later by shoveling Jakub Voracek's centering feed past Lundqvist.
Girardi regained the two-goal edge 5:17 into the second period as his blast from the point beat a screened Emery. Carcillo sealed the win after bolting from the penalty box before deflecting Brian Boyle's saucer pass between the pads of the netminder.
GAME NOTEBOOK: St. Louis joined San Jose's Patrick Marleau and Colorado's Ryan O'Reilly as finalists for the Lady Byng Trophy awarded "to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability." The 38-year-old St. Louis is vying for his fourth Lady Byng Trophy in five seasons. ... Philadelphia captain Claude Giroux notched his second assist of the series on Streit's goal, but recorded his first shot on goal in three games at 6:23 of the second period. ... Carcillo was inserted into the lineup for his grit, replacing RW Jesper Fasth (healthy scratch).
