Devils 4, Rangers 3 (OT): Defenseman Eric Gelinas scored on a power play 1:15 into overtime as visiting New Jersey snapped its three-game winless drought (0-2-1).
Travis Zajac, Cam Janssen and Michael Ryder also tallied while Jaromir Jagr and Tim Sestito each collected a pair of assists as the Devils beat New York for the third time in as many meetings this season. Martin Brodeur snapped a personal four-game skid by turning aside 21 shots and picking up an assist for New Jersey.
Chris Kreider forced overtime by scoring during a man advantage at 19:38 of the third period, Mats Zuccarello recorded a goal and an assist and Brad Richards also tallied for the Rangers, who failed for the sixth straight time to move two games over the .500 mark. Henrik Lundqvist made 20 saves but was unable to protect a 2-0 lead and saw Gelinas' one-timer go off his glove for the game-winner.
Richards scored his team-high ninth goal just over 3 1/2 minutes into the game, busting down the left wing and snapping a shot from the faceoff circle that beat Brodeur to the short side. Zuccarello doubled the lead 57 seconds into the second period, pouncing on the long rebound of captain Ryan Callahan's slapper and burying it from near the left faceoff dot.
The Devils cut into the deficit five minutes later, when Brodeur's long lead pass set up a slap shot by Sestito that Lundqvist kicked out to an onrushing Janssen, who knocked it in off his skate - which was ruled a goal upon video review. Zajac, playing in his 500th career game, buried the rebound of Jagr's backhander at 5:58 of the third and Ryder scored with 4:04 left to put New Jersey ahead, but Kreider forced the overtime by converting a late rebound.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Janssen's goal was his third in 16 games this season, matching his total from the previous 312 contests of his NHL career. ... Zuccarello extended his point streak to four games and recorded his fourth multi-point performance in the last eight contests. ... Brodeur picked up the 43rd regular-season assist of his career. ... New York D Marc Staal went to the locker room in the third period after absorbing a hard hit from Devils rookie Reid Boucher and did not return.
