Ducks 5, Flames 2: Dustin Penner scored twice as Anaheim extended its home dominance over Calgary.
Corey Perry and Andrew Cogliano each had a goal and an assist and defenseman Sami Vatanen opened the scoring for the Ducks, who won their 18th consecutive home game against the Flames. Frederik Andersen made 19 saves in his first start since Nov. 12.
David Jones tallied twice for Calgary, which has two wins in its last 11 games (2-7-2). Reto Berra stopped 33 of 38 shots before being chased from the net in his eighth straight start.
Saku Koivu returned to Anaheim's lineup after missing a month with a head injury and made an immediate impact, forcing a turnover and feeding Cogliano, who set up Vatanen at the top of the right faceoff circle 12:20 into the contest. Perry tipped a shot by defenseman Ben Lovejoy past Berra 54 seconds later and Penner got his stick on a slap pass from captain Ryan Getzlaf with the man advantage 3:52 into the second period.
Jones cut the deficit to two goals 1:59 later, but Cogliano’s backhand shot found the top corner on a rush 2:30 after that. Jones made it 4-2 after 40 minutes before Penner ended Berra’s night with his second of the contest 11:26 into the third period.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Penner has five goals on a three-game goal-scoring streak. … Calgary fell to 0-10-2 when trailing after two periods. … Anaheim improved to 10-0-1 at home. … Getzlaf added two assists and has 34 points in 31 career games against the Flames.
