Senators 3, Capitals 1: Kyle Turris scored a pair of goals and host Ottawa snapped Washington's eight-game win streak.
Cory Conacher also scored and Craig Anderson turned aside 18 shots as the Senators won their fourth consecutive game to improve to 15-3-3 at home and pull within one point of fifth-place Toronto in the Eastern Conference.
Mike Ribeiro had the lone goal and Braden Holtby made 35 saves for the Capitals, who suffered their first regulation defeat in 11 games (9-1-1) and saw their lead over Winnipeg in the Southeast Division shrink to two points.
Turris put Ottawa ahead 75 seconds into the second period, beating Holtby to the stick side with a wrist shot to end a 13-game goal-scoring drought. Ribeiro notched the equalizer with a tap-in midway through the session, but Conacher answered just over two minutes later into an open net following an errant pass by Holtby.
The Senators dominated throughout, outshooting the Capitals 37-19, but Anderson - who improved to 8-0-2 at home - preserved the one-goal lead by denying Eric Fehr on a breakaway with just under nine minutes remaining. Turris' empty-net tally with 1:27 to play sealed it.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Turris' first goal, his ninth, was his 100th career point in 229 games. Milan Michalek assisted to give him a point in each of his three contests since returning from a 15-game absence. ... Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who leads the league with 28 goals, was held off the scoresheet for only the third time in 19 games. ... Capitals C Nicklas Backstrom suffered an upper-body injury in the third period and did not return.
