ISLANDERS 5, JETS 4: Michael Grabner and Kyle Okposo each scored two goals and John Tavares collected a pair of assists as New York closed out its home schedule with a wild win over Winnipeg.
Grabner scored the game-winning goal with 47 seconds left in the contest. He redirected Travis Hamonic’s point shot past goalie Al Montoya after Evander Kane’s weak clearing attempt was stopped at the blue line.
Grabner earlier gave the Islanders a 4-3 lead when he scored on a penalty shot. Dustin Byfuglien was called for slashing on the play but quickly redeemed himself by tying the game at 4-4 just 36 seconds later.
The Jets' Zach Bogosian tied the game at 3-3 with his fifth goal of the season at 7:03 of the first period.
Okposo broke a 2-2 tie at 8:41 of the middle frame with his second tally of the night. Tavares made a tape-to-tape pass from the side-boards to a wide-open Okposo, whose first goal came at 8:06 of the opening frame to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead.
Matt Moulson had scored hs 36th goal of the season for New York just 1:34 earlier.
The Jets responded with a pair of goals in the first period. Tobias Enstrom scored his sixth and captain Andrew Ladd his 28th.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Islander defenseman Steve Staios was honored before the game for playing in his 1,000th NHL game. … Islanders F PA Parenteau left the game in the second period with a lower body injury.
