Martin St. Louis scored his 23rd goal of the season and Dwayne Roloson made 17 saves as the Tampa Bay Lightning downed visiting New Jersey 2-1 on Friday, snapping the Devils’ eight-game winning streak.
Simon Gagne also scored for the Lightning, who have won two straight after dropping three in a row.
Following a scoreless first period, St. Louis put Tampa Bay on the board with a wrist shot right off an offensive-zone faceoff at 2:20 of the second. Gagne doubled Tampa Bay’s lead with his 10th of the season just 54 seconds later.
New Jersey defenseman Mark Fayne snapped Roloson’s shutout bid at 8:13 of the third period with his fourth of the season. Ilya Kovalchuk extended his points streak to 12 games with an assist on the play.
Johan Hedberg made 28 saves in the loss.
