Adrian Peterson’s 80-yard touchdown run in the third quarter broke open a tight game and the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Detroit Lions 24-10 at the Metrodome on Sunday.
Peterson carried 23 times for 160 yards and two scores. Brett Favre was 23-for-34 passing for 201 yards and a touchdown.
Favre threw two interceptions in the first half and the first one set up a short touchdown pass from Shaun Hill to Tony Scheffler to give Detroit a short-lived 7-0 lead.
Minnesota (1-2) answered right back on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Favre to Percy Harvin (6 catches, 62 yards).
Peterson scored on Minnesota’s next possession from 5 yards out to give the Vikings a 14-7 lead.
Favre’s second interception came late in the first half and set up a 33-yard field goal by Jason Hanson to cut the Minnesota lead to 14-10.
Hill hit 29-of-43 passes for 237 yards and had two interceptions. Jahvid Best rushed for just 26 yards on seven carries for the Lions. Best left with a toe injury.
