Senior quarterback Kellen Mond threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to tight end Jalen Wydermyer, to lead the host Texas A&M Aggies to a 42-31 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday night in the annual Southwest Classic.
The eighth-ranked Aggies (4-1, 4-1 in SEC) won their ninth in a row over the Razorbacks (2-3, 2-3) as they hosted the annual rivalry game for the first time since 2012.
Mond completed 21 of 26 passes for 260 yards and surpassed 10,000 career total yards to become the all-time leader in school history, surpassing former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.
Arkansas entered the game with one of the SEC's best defenses statistically, having allowed 25.5 points per game. But Texas A&M scored touchdowns on its first three trips to the red zone and scored five touchdowns inside the 20 overall.
Arkansas, which played without cornerback Jerry Jacobs, who opted out of playing the remainder of the season, couldn't add to its conference-leading 10 interceptions.
Razorbacks kicker A.J. Reed also missed two field goal attempts in the first half, which could have kept the game close.
Wydermyer caught six passes for a team-high 92 yards and Ainias Smith caught six passes for 67 yards and a touchdown. Junior receiver Hezekiah Jones caught his first passes since 2018, coming off Achilles surgery, and totaled five receptions for 47 yards.
The Aggies once again balanced their attack, rushing for 182 yards as Isaiah Spiller finished with 82 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Smith also ran for a touchdown as did freshman Devon Achane.
Texas A&M remained efficient on third down, converting 7 of 11 such opportunities.
Arkansas quarterback Feleipe Franks also threw three touchdown passes and finished with 239 yards passing without an interception on 23 of 31 attempts.
Sophomore wide receiver Treylon Burks caught two of those touchdowns and finished with seven catches for 117 yards. Senior running back Rakeem Boyd paced Arkansas' running game with 100 yards on 18 carries, adding a late touchdown.
Aggies freshman defensive back Antonio Johnson was disqualified for targeting with 13:30 left in the third quarter.
