Shea Patterson passed for 384 yards and four touchdowns and No. 15 Michigan overwhelmed rival Michigan State 44-10 on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Patterson completed 24 of 33 passes and Ronnie Bell caught nine passes for 150 yards for the Wolverines (8-2 overall, 5-2 Big Ten).
Brian Lewerke completed 17 of 30 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown for Michigan State (4-6, 2-5), which has lost five straight. Lewerke was also picked off twice.
The Wolverines led 17-7 at halftime.
The Spartans scored late in the first quarter on a 60-yard drive. Lewerke picked up a first down with a 7-yard run on fourth-and-1 in Michigan territory. A 29-yard pass to Cody White set up Lewerke's 1-yard scoring pass to fullback Max Rosenthal.
The Wolverines answered on their next possession when Hassan Haskins took a direct snap and scored from 1 yard out. Patterson's 18-yard completion to Bell set up the score.
Michigan took the lead on a 12-play, 98-yard drive. Bell caught two passes on the drive and Patterson finished it off with a 5-yard toss to tight end Nick Eubanks.
Quinn Nordin's 28-yard field goal in the final minute of the half gave Michigan a double-digit advantage.
An Ambry Thomas interception set up another Michigan touchdown early in the second half. It took only four plays for the Wolverines to cover 57 yards, including an 18-yard scoring pass from Patterson to Donovan Peoples-Jones.
Matt Coghlin's 35-yard field goal pulled the Spartans within 14 at 24-10 midway through the third quarter.
