Jalen Hurts threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as No. 5 Oklahoma blew out West Virginia 52-14 on Saturday in Norman, Okla.
One of the few things that went wrong for the Sooners was when the Sooner Schooner, the team's covered wagon mascot, tipped over celebrating a second-quarter touchdown.
Outside of that, the Sooners rolled to their first 7-0 start since 2004 while improving to 4-0 in Big 12 play.
The win spoiled the return of Austin Kendall, who spent the last three years at Oklahoma backing up Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray before transferring to West Virginia in the offseason. Kendall threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
Hurts was the star of the show.
The graduate transfer from Alabama completed all but one of his 17 pass attempts for 316 yards. He also ran for 75 yards. As importantly, he avoided turning the ball over.
Both CeeDee Lamb and Charleston Rambo had 71 receiving yards for the Sooners, with Rambo finding the end zone.
After being forced to punt on the opening drive, the Sooners scored touchdowns on four consecutive drives to blow the game open.
Hurts' two rushing touchdowns stood out.
On the first, which led to the wagon tipping over, he made Mountaineers defensive end Reuben Jones miss in the backfield before strolling in from 2 yards out. On the second, a burst of speed through the defensive line found him wide open for a 22-yard score.
Hurts has 10 rushing touchdowns this season.
Oklahoma had 560 yards of offense, the most for the Sooners in three games. It was also the most surrendered by the Mountaineers (3-4, 1-3) this season by more than 100 yards.
Midway through the third quarter, the Sooners scored on a blocked punt after narrowly missing blocking a punt earlier.
West Virginia managed just 51 rushing yards and 242 yards of total offense, the fewest total yards allowed by Oklahoma since late in the 2017 season.
