Nick Sciba's fifth field goal of the game was a 25-yarder with 4:18 remaining to give Wake Forest a 22-20 victory against visiting Florida State on Saturday night at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Florida State's Ricky Aguayo missed wide left on a 50-yard field-goal attempt with 2:13 remaining. The Seminoles, who had one timeout remaining, fumbled after regaining possession in the waning seconds.

The Atlantic Coast Conference game was played in a steady second-half rain. Wake Forest (6-1, 2-1 ACC) ended a seven-game losing streak in the series.

Wake Forest running back Cade Carney scored on a 3-yard run on the second play of the fourth quarter.

Florida State (3-4, 2-3) responded with James Blackman's 36-yard touchdown pass to Tamorrion Terry followed by a failed two-point conversion attempt at the11:22 mark, so its lead stayed at 20-19.

Sciba has made 23 consecutive field-goal attempts.

Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman, a sophomore, made his first start of the season in place of Jamie Newman, who suffered a shoulder injury last week when the team absorbed its first loss to Louisville. Hartman was 21-for-38 for 308 yards.

Wake Forest receiver Sage Surratt had 150 of his170 receiving yards in the first half.

Florida State running back Cam Akers rushed for 157 yards on 30 carries and had 42 receiving yards on four catches.

Florida State took its first lead on Akers' 19-yard catch-and-run with 1:08 left in the first half.

The Seminoles reached the Wake Forest 12-yard line midway through the third quarter before Akers fumbled.

Florida State starting safety Hamsah Nasirildeen, the team's leading tackler, was ejected for targeting on the game's first possession.

Wake Forest settled for Sciba's 21-yard field goal on that drive. He then hit from 25 yards to end each of the next two possessions.

Akers put Florida State on the board with a 2-yard run early in the second quarter.

Wake Forest countered with Sciba's 27-yard field goal for a 12-7 lead.

Wake Forest redshirt sophomore linebacker Chase Monroe notched his first career interception by picking off Blackman in the second quarter.

Wake Forest linebacker Justin Strnad, the team's top tackler, didn't return after leaving with a third-quarter knee injury.
