Junior running back A.J. Dillon ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns to lead Boston College to a 30-16 victory over Rutgers on Saturday afternoon in Piscataway, N.J.
Dillon led the charge for a Boston College offense that blended big first-half plays and second-half ball control. The Eagles (3-1) bounced back from a blowout loss to Kansas a week ago.
BC quarterback Anthony Brown threw for 159 yards on 13-of-25 passing.
Rutgers' Art Sitkowski finished 23 of 33 for 304 yards and one interception. He found running back Raheem Blacksheer for a 74-yard touchdown in the first quarter and hit 18 of his first 21 passes.
The Eagles drove 82 yards in 13 plays on their first possession of the second half to create a 24-13 advantage. Dillon finished the drive with a 1-yard TD run.
After Rutgers (1-2) pulled within 24-16 early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles went on an 18-play, 75-yard drive that was capped by Dillon's 4-yard run.
With a 30-16 lead and 6:32 remaining in the fourth quarter, BC's Mike Palmer intercepted Sitkowski to help seal the win.
David Bailey's 42-yard touchdown run gave Boston College a 7-0 lead at 13:12 of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Eagles recovered a fumble by Blacksheer inside the Scarlet Knights' 20-yard line. That set up Brown's 1-yard scoring that gave Boston College a 14-10 lead with 9:48 left in the half.
Aaron Boumerhi's 37-yard field goal gave the Eagles a 17-13 halftime lead.
