Quarterback Bryce Perkins ran for two touchdowns and threw for a game-clinching score in the fourth quarter as Virginia defeated host Duke 28-14 on a mostly rainy Saturday afternoon at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Perkins scored on a pair of third-down runs in the first half. His 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end Evan Butts with 3:58 remaining followed by a two-point conversion toss re-established Virginia's 14-point lead.

Virginia (5-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), which was following a home upset of Miami one week earlier, has defeated Duke in four consecutive seasons.

Perkins was 20-of-32 passing for 189 yards. He also was the game's leading rusher with 61 yards on 15 carries.

Duke quarterback Daniel Jones completed 22 of 39 passes for 240 yards. He threw two interceptions, increasing his total to nine in three career games against Virginia.

Duke (5-2, 1-2) had 82 yards of first-half total offense, but the Blue Devils went 75 yards in four plays to start the second half. Jones threw 46 yards to Chris Taylor for the touchdown.

Brian Delaney kicked field goals of 37 and 42 yards on the next two Virginia possessions as the Cavaliers pushed the margin to 20-7.

Duke struck back, converting two third downs before receiver T.J. Rahming threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to tight end Davis Koppenhaver off a reverse with 10:46 to play.

Perkins ran 23 yards for a touchdown on the game's opening possession.

Virginia reached the Duke 29 on its next drive before a failed fourth down.

Perkins scrambled for a 3-yard touchdown run on the second play of the second quarter as the Cavaliers built a 14-0 lead.

Duke dodged more trouble when Delaney missed a 33-yard field goal attempt.

The Blue Devils finally reached Virginia territory on Jones' third-down scramble midway through the second quarter. On the next play, he was intercepted by Virginia's Juan Thornhill in the end zone.

Duke has suffered both of its losses at home, falling to Virginia Tech three weeks ago.
