The Oregon Ducks waited 364 days for this game.
Led by a record-breaking night from running back Royce Freeman, Oregon (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12) exacted revenge from last year's Civil War loss with an 69-10 dismantling of rival Oregon State on Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
One year ago, a 34-24 loss to Oregon State (1-11, 0-9 Pac-12) ignited a complete makeover of the Oregon football program.
Coach Mark Helfrich was fired, making room for USF's Willie Taggart to take over. Then Taggart traveled down to southern California to convince Freeman to return for one more season, promising an offense built around the senior.
Safe to say Freeman made the right choice.
He finished the game with 122 yards and two scores -- with his second touchdown breaking the Pac-12 record for most career rushing touchdowns. He has 60 with a bowl game still to be played.
Quarterback Justin Herbert showed how dangerous Oregon's offense can be when he's directing it, finishing with 251 yards and three scores on 13-of-23 passing. He also had a rushing score.
Dillon Mitchell enjoyed a career day, finishing with six catches 119 yards and two scores for the Ducks.
A lot of noise was made by Oregon State players and interim head coach Cory Hall heading into the matchup. A few players and Hall spoke about how they knew they were going to win last year when the Ducks put on raincoats during the inclement weather, alluding to Oregon being soft.
Freeman apparently took those words to heart as soon as the game started. He ended Oregon's two beginning drives with 83 yards and a score, often punishing defenders near the end of his runs.
The Ducks jumped out to a 17-0 lead before Timmy Hernandez got Oregon State on the scoreboard with a 43-yard touchdown reception.
Oregon responded by outscoring the Beavers 35-0 in the second quarter for a 52-7 lead at the half. Herbert threw for two scores, and he and Freeman each rushed for one touchdown in the quarter.
The Ducks took their foot on the gas pedal in the second half -- scoring 17 points after halftime, highlighted with a defensive touchdown by Justin Hollins.
The 69 points nd 59-point differential were both the record setters in the 121st meeting between the teams.
