Kadary Richmond converted the go-ahead layup to cap a 24-point, 12-rebound performance, guiding Seton Hall to a 78-72 victory over host Butler on Saturday in Indianapolis.
Richmond shot 8-for-18 from the field and added five assists for Seton Hall (12-5, 5-1 Big East), which won its fourth straight game. Dre Davis and Dylan Addae-Wusu each scored 14 points and Al-Amir Dawes had 10 for the Pirates.
Posh Alexander led Butler (11-6, 2-4) with 17 points and four assists and Jalen Thomas had 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Pirates led by eight at the half, but the teams traded one- and two-point leads down the stretch.
Down 72-70, Seton Hall tied the game with 1:57 left when Dawes hit a jumper while falling down in the paint. After an empty Butler possession, Richmond took Jahmyl Telfort one-on-one, bullied him in the lane and laid in what turned out to be the game-winner.
Richmond then went 4-for-4 at the foul line to salt it away.
Seton Hall outshot Butler 50.8 percent to 40.7 percent overall. Telfort had 13 points and five rebounds and Pierre Brooks added 12 points for Butler.
Alexander hit two early 3-pointers for a 10-5 Butler lead. Seton Hall rallied to tie it before Butler drew ahead 17-13, thanks to 6-for-9 field-goal shooting to start the game.
That's when the Pirates took control with a 12-2 stretch, punctuated by 3-pointers from Richmond and Dre Davis.
Jaquan Sanders added two triples for Seton Hall as the half wore on, but the Bulldogs stayed within six until the Pirates had a 7-0 spurt for their first double-digit advantage. Landon Moore's triple in the final minute cut Butler's deficit to 45-37 at halftime.
Both teams shot 50 percent from the arc in the half (8-of-16 by Seton Hall, 6-of-12 by Butler).
Seton Hall committed just one turnover in the first half but had nine in the second half, opening the door for Butler.
Telfort and Boden Kapke made back-to-back 3-pointers to move Butler in front 62-60 at the 7:04 mark.
Addae-Wusu's driving layup put Hall back in front 66-64. But Alexander drew a foul on a 3-point heave in the last second of the shot clock, and he made his three foul shots to restore Butler's lead.
