Adama Sanogo scored 19 points and Isaiah Whaley added 15 in a dominant effort inside as No. 20 UConn never trailed in a 96-73 Big East victory over Georgetown on Tuesday night in Storrs, Conn.
In winning its fourth straight, UConn (14-4, 5-2) outrebounded Georgetown 40-28 and outscored the Hoyas 42-28 in the paint.
Tyrese Martin tallied 13 points and eight rebounds for the Huskies. Sanogo had eight boards while Whaley contributed seven, including six off the offensive glass.
The Huskies found little resistance on the offensive end. They made 50 percent of their shots while committing just seven turnovers. They also outscored the Hoyas 27-6 on fast breaks.
Point guard R.J. Cole had much to do with the offensive efficiency as he supplied 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Jordan Hawkins hit four 3-pointers on his way to 15 points.
Georgetown (6-11, 0-6) lost its seventh in a row. Aminu Mohammed tallied 15 points and seven rebounds. Collin Holloway scored 11 points.
UConn took an early lead and extended it to 11 points midway through the first half, on consecutive 3-pointers by Akok Akok and Hawkins.
But Georgetown stayed close on the strength of long-distance shooting, making 8 of 13 shots from beyond the arc in the first half. Mohammed accounted for three and Carey added a pair on consecutive trips down the floor.
In the second half, UConn steadily built its lead. Whaley hustled for a fast-break layup and Cole followed with a 3-pointer as the Huskies took a 57-40 lead early in the second half.
Later, when Hawkins drained 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, he gave UConn its first 20-point lead of the night, 72-52.
Sanogo scored on two dunks and a layup as the Huskies stretched their lead further. In the closing minutes, Hawkins pushed the lead to 31 with a pair of free throws.
