Jahmi'us Ramsey poured in 25 points as visiting Texas Tech forged a dominating first half and never let up, rolling past Iowa State 87-57 on Saturday in Big 12 Conference play in Ames, Iowa.
The Red Raiders led by 16 points at halftime and were never threatened in the second half. Iowa State never got closer than 15 points through the game's final 24 minutes.
Kyler Edwards added 19 points for the Red Raiders (18-9, 9-5 Big 12) while TJ Holyfield had 10 points and Kevin McCullar grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Texas Tech, which has won five of its past six games.
Texas Tech outshot the Cyclones 57.1 percent to 35.8. and had 46 points in the paint to just 22 for Iowa State. The 87 points were the most scored by a Big 12 opponent in Hilton Coliseum this season.
Solomon Young led the Cyclones (11-16, 4-10) with 16 points, with Rasir Bolton adding 13 points and Michael Jacobson grabbing 10 rebounds.
Iowa State led 18-17 after a Solomon Young layup with 10:40 to play in the first half. The Red Raiders then reeled off an 11-2 run over the ensuing three minutes, going up 28-20 on two free throws by Holyfield with 7:41 remaining until the break. Texas Tech's lead grew to 49-27 on a three-point play by Edwards with 2:15 to play until halftime.
Texas Tech scorched the nets in the first half, shooting 72 percent (18 of 25) from the floor and 5 for 7 from 3-point range on the way to a 51-35 lead at intermission.
Ramsey paced the Red Raiders with 12 points in the half while Edwards scored 10. Young led the Cyclones, who shot just 39 percent in the half, with 10 points. Iowa State stayed as close as it did thanks to nine offensive rebounds and 11 second-chance points.
The 30-point margin was the largest in the series between the two teams, which is led by the Cyclones 20-17.
