Curtis Jones Jr. scored all 18 of his points in the second half and Myreon Jones added 16 for Penn State.
The Nittany Lions (14-5, 4-4) had dropped seven straight and 21 of the last 23 games at Michigan. Penn State's last road win at Michigan came in 2010.
Zavier Simpson led Michigan with 18 points while Brandon Johns Jr. added a career-high 14 and Eli Brooks had 12. Jon Teske swept 11 rebounds.
The Wolverines (11-7, 2-5) lost their third in a row.

Stevens then hit a tough shot in the paint to cap a 12-0 run as the Nittany Lions led 28-21.
Michigan, which missed eight of its first nine 3-pointers, went more than six minutes without scoring. Teske finally converted a layup to end a 14-0 spurt and close the Wolverines within 30-23.
Johns Jr. followed with a trey for Michigan and the deficit was just four, 30-26.
Penn State finished the half strong and held a 37-28 advantage thanks in large part to Stevens' 14 points.
The Nittany Lions came out of the locker room aggressive as Myreon Jones' third 3-pointer extended the lead to 44-31 with 17:16 remaining.
Michigan responded with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 44-39 with 13:44 left.

Six straight points by the Nittany Lions pushed the advantage back to 58-45 with 8:08 left. As they built the 13-point lead, Michigan went through a stretch of missing 18 of 21 shots.
