Guard Je'lon Hornbeak scored 18 points as Monmouth continued knocking off high-major programs with a decisive 83-68 win over Georgetown on Tuesday night in Washington.

The Hawks (7-3) controlled the matchup with the Big East power from the start and kept up the attack by sinking 10 of 20 3-point attempts and 31 of 37 free throws.

Poor shooting from all angles doomed the Hoyas, who had won five straight. Georgetown (6-4) shot 32.8 percent from the field, 7-for-29 from beyond the 3-point arc and made 21 of 33 on free throws.

Guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 18 points to top the Hoyas, and forward Isaac Copeland had 16.

Georgetown trailed by 11 points midway through the first half, 39-27 at halftime and 51-35 early in the second half. Seemingly every attempted rally was met with a Monmouth counter, often from beyond the arc. The Hawks led for all but 80 seconds and by as many as 18 points.

Guard Deon Jones had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Monmouth, and guards Micah Seaborn and Collin Stewart added 13 points apiece.

Hornbeak only made one field goal in seven attempts, but he hit 15 of 16 free throws.

Monmouth also beat UCLA on the road in addition to recording victories over Notre Dame and Southern California.

The Hoyas rebounded after 1-3 start that included a season-opening home loss to Radford, another confident and 3-point-shooting underdog.

Georgetown closes its seven-game homestand Saturday against UNC Asheville. Monmouth plays at Rutgers of the Big Ten on Sunday.
