St. John's 69, Butler 52: JaKarr Sampson scored 20 points to lead the visiting Red Storm to their second straight Big East win.

Sampson was 9-for-14 from the floor and also had seven rebounds for St. John's (12-8, 2-5), which shot 52.6 percent overall. Rysheed Jordan chipped in 16 points and D'Angelo Harrison had 12 as the Red Storm were victorious in their first visit to historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Khyle Marshall led the Bulldogs (11-9, 1-7) with 16 points and Kellen Dunham added 13. The pair combined for just nine points in the second half, which saw Butler endure a scoreless span of nearly six minutes down the stretch.

The Bulldogs took control early, using an 8-0 run capped by a dunk by Marshall and a jumper by Dunham to take a 10-point lead midway through the first half. St. John's responded in a big way, as Harrison and Jordan buried consecutive 3-pointers to ignite a 34-9 burst that carried into the second half.

Jordan finished that long push by the visitors with a layup to make it 49-34 with 17 minutes left in the game and it was still a 15-point margin with under 11 minutes remaining before Marshall had consecutive hoops to spark an 8-0 Butler run. Harrison hit two free throws and Sampson scored three straight baskets to push the advantage to 65-50 and St. John's was never threatened again.
