No. 21 North Carolina State 83, Georgia Tech 70: Lorenzo Brown led four players in double figures with 21 points, and a late 16-4 run pushed the host Wolfpack to their ninth consecutive victory.
The Wolfpack (13-2, 2-0 ACC) had their hands full with Georgia Tech (10-4, 0-2). The Yellow Jackets stayed close for the first 34 minutes, tying the game at 56 on Kammeon Holsey’s free throw with 6:41 to play.
North Carolina State took over from that point. Brown scored six points during the decisive run, his layup with 1:46 remaining giving the Wolfpack a 72-60 advantage. Scott Wood and Rodney Purvis hit 3-points during the spurt to help North Carolina State pull away.
Wood finished with 20 points for the Wolfpack, C.J. Leslie scored 19 points and Purvis added 13. North Carolina State, the nation’s top shooting team at 53.9 percent starting the night, shot 50.9 against Georgia Tech.
Daniel Miller scored a career-high 15 points for the Yellow Jackets, who have lost their first two conference games after ending non-conference play with six consecutive victories. Mfon Udofia added 13 points.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Yellow Jackets started quickly, taking a 13-6 lead in the game’s first seven minutes. … The two teams were separated by no more than four points from the 12:37 mark of the first half until the Wolfpack’s late run. ... North Carolina State plays Sunday at No. 1 Duke.
