McClellan had 14 points, including six during a crucial late-game
run as the Longhorns pulled away late for a nonconference home win
over the Owls.
Max Guercy's layup with
8:54 to play in the second half cut the Texas lead to 41-38. But the
Owls scored just three points the rest of the way as the Longhorns
went on a game-ending 16-3 run to win going away.
Texas (8-5) improved to 7-0 at
home on the season despite shooting just 36.7 percent from the floor.
The Longhorns were helped by a 46-21 advantage on the glass, led by
McClellan's nine rebounds. Texas had 16 offensive boards, including four
apiece by Connor Lammert and Jonathan Holmes.
Julien Lewis finished with 12
points for the Longhorns, while Javan Felix added seven points, seven
assists and six rebounds.
Rice (3-9) was paced by Austin
Ramijak's 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Tamir Jackson added
12 points.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Rice doubled up
Texas in personal fouls, 24-12, with five Owls finishing with four or
more fouls. The Longhorns shot 29 free throws compared to six by
Rice. … Texas attempted a season-low nine 3-point attempts. … The Owls get some time before their next contest,
traveling to Harvard for a game on Jan. 5. The Longhorns also have a
week off before they travel to Baylor for their Big 12 opener on Jan.
