Shabazz Napier bounced back from a tough performance on Friday with 23 points and five assists on Saturday to lead No. 4 Connecticut to a 78-76 overtime victory over No. 20 Florida State in the third place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas.
Jeremy Lamb added 19 points and Andre Drummond collected 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for the Huskies (6-1), who had their 16-game winning streak snapped against Central Florida in the semifinal on Friday.
Freshman Ryan Boatright, who was making his debut season debut after a six-game suspension to begin the season, was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 7.3 seconds left and connected on all three chances, knotting the game at 71-71.
Napier’s 3-pointer in overtime gave Connecticut the lead for good.
The Huskies led by as many as 10 points in the second half but the Seminoles slowly chipped away in the final 10 minutes, grabbing their first lead, 67-65, on a pair of free throws by Michael Snaer with 1:51 left. Florida State had a chance to seal it at the line but hit only 2 of 4 in the final seconds, leaving the door open for Boatright.
Snaer scored 20 points to lead Florida State (5-2).
