Notre Dame ended a 12-year drought at Hartford's XL Center, grinding out a narrow 50-48 win at No. 19 Connecticut.
Utilizing a deliberate offense, the Fighting Irish (14-8, 6-3 Big East) scored the first 13 points of the second half, holding the Huskies (14-6, 4-4) scoreless for more than seven minutes while building a 34-24 advantage. Connecticut had two shots to tie the game in the final minute, but Shabazz Napier missed a pair of 3-pointers and Jeremy Lamb came up short at the buzzer after rebounding an intentional free throw miss.
Jerian Grant finished with 11 points, six assists and three steals for Notre Dame, which had lost its last six games in Hartford and was 2-10 all-time at Connecticut. The Fighting Irish, one of the Big East's worst rebounding teams, finished with a 33-29 edge on the glass against the bigger Huskies.
Jeremy Lamb scored 16 points for Connecticut, which made just 3 of 13 shots from behind the arc. Andre Drummond added 15 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots in defeat.
