Despite shooting only 40 percent from the field Rutgers
found a way to rout Pitt, 62-39, on Wednesday.
The Scarlett Knights (10-7, 2-2 Big East) made only 22 of 55
field goal attempts, but that was far better than the 21.1 percent that Pitt
(11-6, 0-4) managed while losing for the fifth consecutive time.
Rutgers was led by freshman Eli Carter with 14 points and
Dane Miller with 11 points and 12 rebounds, his second double-double of the
season. Rutgers outrebounded Pitt 51-39.
Pitt made only 12 of 57 field goals and hit just 4 of 19 of
its 3-pointers. The Panthers were led by reserve J.J. Moore with 10 points.
Ashton Gibbs, who entered the game averaging 16.7 points, made only 2 of 11 from
the field and finished with eight points.
The victory ended Rutgers’ three-game losing streak to Pitt.
It was only the second win for Rutgers in the last 12 meetings with the
Panthers.
