Kenny Kadji recorded a career-high 21 points and Reggie Johnson added 15 in his first game back after offseason knee surgery as Miami outlasted Florida Atlantic 93-90 in double overtime Saturday at the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla.
Durand Scott contributed 18 points for the Hurricanes (6-4), including four in the second overtime after missing a chance to win it at the end of the first extra session. The 6-10 Johnson, expected to be out until January, also had nine rebounds, five blocks and five assists.
Freshman Omari Grier had a career-high 27 points, including a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left in regulation for Florida Atlantic to send the game into overtime tied 72-72. Grier was starting in place of leading scorer Greg Gantt, who was out with an ankle injury.
Raymond Taylor added 20 points and eight assists, and Kore White had 18 points for the Owls (4-7).
Miami, which led 34-30 at halftime, made 14-of-20 from 3-point range. Rion Brown had 15 points for Miami, making 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Florida Atlantic was 15-of-30 from beyond the arc.
Malcolm Grant was held to nine points, but went over the 1,000-point mark for his career. Grant also made a 3-pointer for the 33rd consecutive game, the second longest streak in the program’s history.
