Marshon Brooks continues to lead the way in Providence’s impressive start.
Brooks scored 27 points and the Friars won for the seventh time in eight games with a 77-72 victory over Northeastern on Wednesday.
The only senior starter for the Friars (7-1) and the only senior among their top nine scorers, Brooks entered Wednesday’s game averaging a team high 18.3 points to go along with 8.3 rebounds.
He put up another impressive performance with eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks and was 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
Along with the play of Brooks, free throws played a big role in this one as the Friars were 16-of-21 while the Huskies (2-3) got to the line just 11 times, making eight.
Vincent Council had 15 points and Bilal Dixon added 14 and 12 rebounds for the Friars, who outrebounded the Huskies, 47-27, and had 19 second-chance points.
Chaisson Allen led Northeastern with 24 points, Joel Smith had 15 and Alex Harris added 11 in 17 minutes off the bench.
With the win Providence, improves to 10-2 in the series with Northeastern and 19-2 all-time against teams from the Colonial Athletic Conference.
