Hawks 107, Clippers 104: DeMarre Carroll scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Atlanta held off Los Angeles for its eighth straight home win.
Al Horford scored 20 points and Paul Millsap added 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the Hawks, who have won five straight and 14 of their last 15 overall. Kyle Korver added 14 points as Atlanta improved to 6-2 against Western Conference teams.
Blake Griffin collected 21 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds and Chris Paul tallied 19 points, seven assists and five steals for the Clippers, who have lost five straight road games. Jamal Crawford and J.J. Redick scored 18 apiece and DeAndre Jordan racked up 15 points, 22 rebounds and four blocks.
Atlanta scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to take a 90-83 lead and extended the margin to nine when Horford hit back-to-back 19-footers. The Clippers pulled within 106-104 when Redick made two of three free throws with 15 seconds left, but Horford made one of two from the line to make it a three-point spread and Griffin's tying attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.
The Hawks led 40-30 after Dennis Schroder's bucket with 9:11 left in the first half, but the Clippers held Atlanta scoreless for 5:25 during a 17-0 run — including eight straight points from Crawford — and took a 57-50 lead into the break. Los Angeles had the lead as large as 13 early in the third quarter before Atlanta began chipping away and got within 83-81 entering the fourth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Atlanta PG Jeff Teague (nine points, six assists) returned after missing three games with a hamstring injury but came off the bench while Schroder remained in the starting lineup. … The Hawks improved to 13-2 at home, the best mark in the Eastern Conference. … Atlanta was 12-of-23 from 3-point range while Los Angeles went 11-of-29.
