Kameron Misner and Yandy Diaz hit run-scoring doubles in the 11th inning and the Tampa Bay Rays avoided dropping six games under .500 for the first since 2018 with a 7-6 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix on Wednesday.
Misner's apparent triple off Drey Jameson (0-1) drove in the go-ahead run for a 6-5 lead in the top of the 11th, but Misner was called out for popping off the bag as the tag was applied after a Diamondbacks challenge. Diaz doubled in Jonathan Aranda with two outs to make it 7-5.
Corbin Carroll hit two homers and drove in three runs for the Diamondbacks, who loaded the bases with one out in their 11th inning. Tampa Bay's Eric Orze got Geraldo Perdomo to ground into a double play to end the game and pick up his first career save.
Arizona's Alek Thomas began the 11th by beating out a single to shortstop Taylor Walls, and the Diamondbacks' first run scored when Walls threw wildly to first. Tim Tawa walked to put runners on first and second. Thomas took third on a flyout before Carroll walked to bring up Perdomo.
The Rays (10-14), who had lost six of their previous seven games, avoided dropping six games under .500 for the first since June 22, 2018, when they were 34-40.
Pete Fairbanks (2-1) got two outs in the 10th for the win.
Diaz had three hits and three RBIs, Misner had three hits and Christopher Morel had a solo homer among his two hits for the Rays.
Tawa had two hits and an RBI for the Diamondbacks, who had won seven of nine. Thomas added two hits and two runs.
Arizona left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez gave up four runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one in his longest start of the season.
Tampa Bay right-hander Taj Bradley allowed three runs on six hits in six innings, with three strikeouts and two walks. He left with a 4-3 lead.
Carroll hit the third pitch in the Diamondbacks' first inning for a 419-foot homer, but the Rays jumped ahead 2-1 with two runs in the second. Morel led off the inning with a homer, and Misner doubled with two outs and scored on Jose Caballero's single.
Arizona got a run back in the second, and Tawa doubled in a run in the fourth for a 3-2 lead.
With one out in the seventh, Misner beat out a bunt single and took third on Danny Jansen's ground-rule double. Rodriguez struck out Caballero before Shelby Miller entered and surrendered Diaz's two-run single for a 4-3 Rays lead.
Carroll's ninth homer of the season, a two-run shot, put the Diamondbacks ahead 5-4 in the seventh, but Chandler Simpson's RBI single tied against Ryan Thompson it in the top of the eighth. After Misner reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases, Thompson got two strikeouts and a flyout to keep the game tied.
