Jose Trevino stroked two of New York's five home runs as the Yankees bashed their way to a second series win over Tampa Bay, thumping the Rays 10-6 Sunday afternoon in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The Yankees' catcher homered in the fourth and eighth innings in a three-RBI game. Jahmai Jones hit a solo shot, Aaron Judge (2-for-4, walk) had a two-run bash and Gleyber Torres swatted a three-run homer.
Starter Luis Gil (4-1) was masterful over six shutout innings. The right-hander recorded three strikeouts and two walks, yielded only three hits and lowered his ERA to 2.51.
Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-5 with two runs as the Yankees posted 11 hits, seven for extra bases, and beat Tampa Bay for the fourth time in six games this season.
Rays starter Tyler Alexander (1-2) allowed six runs on seven hits, fanning three and walking two, but the left-hander surrendered three homers.
Jose Siri hit his first career grand slam, Yandy Diaz homered and Richie Palacios was 2-for-5 with a run.
Shortly after the Mother's Day crowd settled in, Anthony Volpe hit his second triple of the season on the second pitch of the game and scored on Juan Soto's sacrifice fly.
Jones put the Yankees up 2-0 when he led off the third by roping a 76-mph sweeper from Alexander out to left center for his first homer of 2024.
New York avoided a problem in the bottom half of the frame when leadoff hitter Diaz smoked a one-hopper that struck Gil in the back of the left leg. The pitcher shook it off and remained in the game.
After Rizzo opened with a lined single to right in the fourth, Trevino rocked a 3-1 cutter to left -- a 409-foot blast -- for a 4-0 advantage.
After Soto singled with one out in the fifth, Judge lofted his 10th homer to right for a 6-0 lead.
Against reliever Caleb Ferguson in the seventh, Siri launched a 411-foot grand slam to left center, his third homer, to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Nick Burdi relieved Ferguson and loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter before Luke Weaver plunked Isaac Paredes to make it 6-5. However, Weaver got outs from Palacios and Amed Rosario.
In the eighth, Torres' three-run homer, his second overall, and Trevino's solo one put the suddenly tight game away at 10-5. Diaz's third homer in the ninth completed the scoring.
