Eugenio Suarez hit a tie-breaking, two-out double in the top of the ninth inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3 in Denver on Wednesday.
Blaze Alexander homered among his two hits, Ketel Marte and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. also had two hits, Joe Mantiply (1-0) got one out for the win and Kevin Ginkel picked up his second save of the season.
Justin Lawrence (0-1) walked Marte leading off the ninth, retired the next two batters but issued a walk to Christian Walker. Suarez then blooped a double to left field to bring home both runners.
Colorado loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning on Ezequiel Tovar's single and two walks, but Ginkel got Nolan Jones to fly out to end the game.
Michael Toglia homered and Tovar finished with three hits for Colorado, which has not won any of its four series this season.
Rockies starter Austin Gomber cruised through six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out four with two walks. He left with the Rockies ahead by a run. The left-hander was denied the chance for the win when Gurriel's two-out double off reliever Jake Bird in the seventh inning drove in Corbin Carroll to tie it.
Carroll got things started with a one-out double in the top of the first and scored on Gurriel's single to right field. Colorado answered in the bottom of the first when Tovar led off with a single, went to second on a walk to Ryan McMahon -- one of his three on the day -- and scored on Elehuris Montero's single.
Alexander gave Arizona a 2-1 lead in the second inning when he hit a 2-0 pitch into the seats in right field. It was his second home run of the season.
The Rockies went back in front in the fourth against Tommy Henry. Brendan Rodgers reached on Alexander's error at shortstop and Toglia followed with a home run to center field, his third of the season, to make it 3-2.
Henry allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and struck out six in five innings.
