Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy hit home runs, Julio Urias went six strong innings, and the Los Angeles Dodgers earned a 5-2 victory Thursday against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates.
Urias (6-5) gave up two runs on three hits with one walk and eight strikeouts as he looked more like his former self while making his second start since returning from a seven-week absence because of a hamstring injury.
Rookie Nick Gonzales had a two-run double for the Pirates, who lost for the fifth time in their past six games following a four-game winning streak.
The Dodgers won three games in the four-game series and took the season series 4-3 despite dropping a three-game set at Pittsburgh in April.
The Dodgers jumped in front 2-0 a mere two batters into the game thanks to a pair of All-Stars when Mookie Betts doubled off Pirates starter Johan Oviedo and Freeman followed with his 15th home run of the season.
Pittsburgh got even in the second inning when Connor Joe singled, Jack Suwinski doubled and Gonzales drilled his two-run double just inside the third base bag.
Los Angeles grabbed the lead for good in the sixth inning when Freeman led off with a double and Muncy hit his 20th home run of the season, connecting to center field off Oviedo (3-10), who joined Washington's Patrick Corbin as the only National League pitchers with double-digit losses.
Betts and Freeman were at it again in the seventh when Betts' two-out double was followed by an RBI single from Freeman for a 5-2 lead. Freeman finished with three hits.
Oviedo gave up five runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings with two walks and six strikeouts.
On Thursday, the Dodgers' bullpen saw Daniel Hudson (knee) go on the injured list and Yency Almonte go on the paternity list. But Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) was available for the first time in the series.
The Dodgers' Nick Robertson pitched the seventh inning, Graterol pitched the eighth and Alex Vesia pitched the ninth for his first save of the season. Robertson and Vesia were called up before the game.
