Ryan O'Hearn hit a two-run home run and had three RBIs, Brad Keller pitched seven strong innings, and the Kansas City Royals defeated the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 Monday night.

Whit Merrifield added three hits for the Royals in the opener of a four-game series.

Keller (5-5) held the Blue Jays to one run, four hits and two walks while striking out four.

Brandon Maurer threw a scoreless eighth inning, and Wily Peralta pitched around a walk in the ninth inning to earn his seventh save of the season.

The Royals did not commit an error for a franchise-record 13th consecutive game.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Sean Reid-Foley (0-1) and catcher Danny Jansen both made their major league debuts on Monday. It was the first time in franchise history that batterymates made their debuts at the same time.

Reid-Foley allowed three runs, six hits and three walks in five innings. The right-hander struck out three.

Jansen had two singles. His first major league hit came in the second inning in his first at-bat, but Royals left fielder Alex Gordon threw out Russell Martin at home plate on the play.

Devon Travis gave Toronto an early lead when he hit his ninth homer of the season with one out in the first inning.

The Royals led 2-1 in the second after Brett Phillips walked with two outs and O'Hearn hit his second homer of the season.

The Royals added a run in the fourth. Lucas Duda singled, Rosell Herrera walked and Phillips singled to load the bases with no outs. O'Hearn walked to force in a run. Reid-Foley worked out of the inning on a popup and a double-play grounder.

Luis Santos replaced Reid-Foley in the sixth and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk and striking out three.

Toronto left-hander Thomas Pannone pitched around walk in the bottom of the eighth.

It was the first win of the season for the Royals over the Blue Jays, who swept a three-game series at Toronto in April.
