PHOENIX -- Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Iannetta was a reluctant participant in his first career curtain call, but the Chase Field crowd would not be denied.

Iannetta's grand slam capped a five-run sixth inning and gave the Diamondbacks just enough of a lead to hold off the Miami Marlins in a 13-11 victory Friday, and the playoff-hungry crowd would not simmer down until Iannetta moved to the top step of the dugout and tipped his cap in acknowledgement.

"Luckily it was over before I realized what was happening," Iannetta said. "It was a little awkward at the time. I am not a big fan of the attention. It was cool. I will always remember it."

Iannetta had two homers and tied a career-high with eight RBIs, J.D. Martinez tied the franchise record for homers in a month and Paul Goldschmidt reached base four times and scored three runs as the Diamondbacks closed in on their first postseason berth since 2011.

Any combination of Arizona victories and losses by St. Louis or Milwaukee totaling two would put the Diamondbacks (89-65) in the playoffs.

"This is why you play," Iannetta said. "This is why you work hard your whole career, your whole offseason, to play in meaningful games in September. We're fortunate to play those games. We haven't accomplished any goals yet. We have to keep going and win some more games."

With Arizona trailing 9-7, pinch-hitter Christian Walker homered to lead off the sixth inning before the Diamondbacks loaded the bases on an infield error, a walk and Martinez's infield single. Iannetta followed with his homer to deep center field for a 12-9 lead.

Martinez had three hits, including his 42nd homer, his 26th with Arizona, in the ninth inning. He has 13 homers in September, tying the franchise record for a month set by Luis Gonzalez in April, 2001.

Iannetta had a three-run homer in the first inning and singled in a run in the second as the Diamondbacks built a 7-4 lead for Zack Greinke, who could not hold it while giving up a season-high eight runs in four innings.

Marcell Ozuna had two homers and three RBIs and Justin Bour had a three-run homer for the Marlins (72-81), who had won four of five after losing the previous six.

"I thought we did a really good job with Zack, what we wanted to try and do with him," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said.

"Then they kept going."

Giancarlo Stanton had a sacrifice fly and Christian Yelich singled in a run when the Marlins' cut the deficit to 12-11 in the eighth inning. Stanton has 121 RBIs, tying Preston Wilson for the franchise single-season record.

But Martinez homered in the eighth inning for a little more cushion, and right-hander Fernando Rodney pitched around a two-out walk and a single in the ninth inning for his 39th save, the 300th of his career.

Rodney was placed in a clothes cart and wheeled him into the shower area, where his teammates turned the shower on, doused him with beer and presented him with two bottles of Dom Perignon champagne.

"All my teammates said congratulations," Rodney said. "It made me feel good."

Goldschmidt had two hits and walked twice and David Peralta had two hits, drove in a run and scored twice.

Yelich and Dee Gordon had three hits each for Miami.

Greinke, who has not lost to the Marlins in 10 career appearances, gave up a season-high eight runs on nine hits in four innings. He struck out three and walked two.

"It was bad from the get-go," Greinke said.

Ozuna's first homer was good for a 2-0 lead.

Iannetta put Arizona ahead with three-run homer with two outs in the first inning, after Goldschmidt doubled and Martinez walked.

Miguel Rojas and Dee Gordon had run-scoring doubles in the second inning for a 4-3 lead.

Arizona knocked Miami starter Adam Conley out of the game with a four-run second inning for a 7-4 lead. Greinke and Martinez had RBI doubles and Peralta and Iannetta had RBI singles. Conley gave up seven runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Bour's three-run homer in the third inning tied the game, after Yelich singled and Ozuna walked.

Ozuna homered again with two outs in the fourth inning for an 8-7 lead.

Miami went ahead 9-7 on two singles and a double play grounder in the fifth inning.
