Angels 4, Phillies 3: Brennan Boesch and Howie Kendrick drove in two runs apiece as Los Angeles handed visiting Philadelphia its third straight loss.
Jered Weaver (13-7) allowed two runs on eight hits over six innings and two relievers bridged the gap to Huston Street, who worked a perfect ninth for his 31st save and seventh since being acquired from San Diego. Erick Aybar reached base twice and scored each time for Los Angeles, which climbed within 2 1/2 games of first-place Oakland in the American League West.
The Angels rallied from a 2-1 deficit with three runs in the sixth inning and held on for their ninth straight win over Philadelphia. Kendrick sparked the outburst with a two-run single off A.J. Burnett (6-13), who remained winless in six starts since the All-Star break.
Boesch followed Kendrick’s base hit with a sacrifice fly that plated Aybar and put the Angels ahead 4-2. Burnett, who yielded four runs on five hits and four walks over six frames, struck out Hank Conger with runners at the corners to end the inning.
Carlos Ruiz went 3-for-4 while Ben Revere and Jimmy Rollins recorded two hits apiece for the Phillies, who lost despite outhitting the Angels 11-6. Marlon Byrd and Rollins each delivered RBI singles early, and Philadelphia pulled within 4-3 in the eighth as Grady Sizemore tripled with one out and scored on Domonic Brown’s groundout.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Weaver improved to 16-4 with a 2.55 ERA in 29 career interleague starts for Los Angeles, which begins a 10-game road trip Friday at Texas. … Angels CF Mike Trout went 0-for-4 and is 2-for-17 with seven strikeouts against Philadelphia this season. … Los Angeles scored 10 of its 11 runs in the two-game series in the sixth inning.
