Dodgers 4, Cardinals 3: Adrian Gonzalez ripped a go-ahead RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning as visiting Los Angeles salvaged the finale of a three-game series.
The Dodgers lost a 3-1 lead in the sixth when Peter Bourjos hit an unlikely two-run homer against ace Clayton Kershaw, but J.P. Howell (2-3) stranded runners at the corners to end the bottom of the eighth and A.J. Ellis led off the ninth with a double to center. After two strikeouts and a hit batter, Gonzalez lined an offering from Trevor Rosenthal (1-5) to right and pinch runner Miguel Rojas scored without a play.
Juan Uribe had three hits and an RBI and Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier each recorded two hits and drove in a run for Los Angeles, which scored more than three runs for the first time in eight games. Kershaw allowed three runs and six hits while striking out eight in seven innings, failing to get the win for the first time in nine starts, and Kenley Jansen coasted through the ninth for his 28th save.
Kershaw took a 3-1 lead into the sixth, when Matt Carpenter led things off with a 10-pitch walk. Bourjos followed with a blast to left-center to tie it, his third of the year and just the sixth in 103 1/3 innings allowed by Kershaw.
Uribe singled in Ethier in the second before the Cardinals had a quick answer with an RBI double by Allen Craig in the bottom half. Kershaw, who also recorded the first stolen base of his career in the fourth, walked and scored on Kemp's base hit in the third before Ethier knocked in another run to create the 3-1 lead.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez left in the ninth after being hit on the left hand by a Rosenthal pitch. Ramirez was also hit in the fourth by Cardinals RH Carlos Martinez and Kershaw plunked LF Matt Holliday in the bottom half, prompting a warning for both benches. ... Martinez allowed three runs and six hits in four innings. ... The Dodgers continue their road trip at Pittsburgh on Monday, while the Cardinals have the day off before hosting Tampa Bay on Monday.
