Brewers 5, Reds 0: Kyle Lohse tossed a two-hitter for his ninth career shutout and Jean Segura had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored as visiting Milwaukee staved off elimination for at least a few hours.
Rickie Weeks added two hits and an RBI for the Brewers, who are four games behind San Francisco for the second National League wild card with four to play. Lohse (13-9) struck out six, did not issue a walk and didn't allow a baserunner after the fifth inning, snapping a four-start winless streak.
Reds rookie Daniel Corcino (0-2) gave up two runs on four hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings. Jack Hannahan had both hits for Cincinnati with singles in the third and fifth.
Weeks broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the fourth, and Carlos Gomez made it 2-0 with a run-scoring double in the fifth. Segura sparked a three-run eighth with a two-run single and scored on Lohse's sacrifice fly.
The Reds advanced only one runner into scoring position, as Hannahan singled to lead off the third and advanced on Corcino's sacrifice bunt before Billy Hamilton lined out to second to end the inning. Lohse got plenty of help from his defense, including a pair of outstanding catches in the eighth when Gerardo Parra made a sliding grab in foul territory in left and Gomez chased down a deep drive at the warning track in center.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Reds CF Hamilton left the game with a concussion after smashing into the wall to rob Ryan Braun of a home run in the third inning. … Reds pitchers had more than twice as many walks (10) as strikeouts (four). … The Brewers' three-run eighth snapped a string of 79 consecutive innings without scoring more than one run.
