Yankees 7, White Sox 1: Captain Derek Jeter went 4-for-5 with two RBIs after he was honored in pregame ceremonies as visiting New York earned a split of the four-game series.

Masahiro Tanaka (7-1) bounced back from his first loss by limiting Chicago to one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings as the Yankees improved to 3-3 on their nine-game road trip. Brian Roberts homered and scored twice and Brett Gardner drove in a pair in a four-run second inning for New York.

Conor Gillaspie went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and Alexei Ramirez added two hits for the White Sox, who had beaten the Yankees eight straight at home before dropping the final two games of the series. Andre Rienzo (4-1) suffered his first loss, giving up five runs - four earned - on seven hits in five innings.

New York provided Tanaka with all the support he needed in the second, loading the bases with one out before Gardner grounded a two-run single to right field. A throwing error by Rienzo moved the runners up the base before Jeter singled in one run and Jacoby Ellsbury followed with a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 edge.

Jeter tripled in the fourth and scored on a wild pitch and added another RBI single in the sixth before Gillaspie answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame. Roberts clubbed his second homer off reliever Scott Carroll in the eighth to cap the scoring.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jeter, who is retiring after the season, had his 45th career game with four hits and first since Aug. 20, 2012 - also against the White Sox. ... White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games. ...
