White Sox 9, Indians 6: Conor Gillaspie drove in a career-high four runs as Chicago posted a win over visiting Cleveland.
After losing their final 14 matchups against the Indians last season, the White Sox won for the second straight night despite an 0-for-4 performance from impressive rookie Jose Abreu, who hit two homers in Thursday's series opener. Alexei Ramirez, Adam Dunn and Adam Eaton each had two hits and an RBI to complement Gillaspie's strong showing.
Chicago starter Chris Sale (3-0) lasted only five innings, during which he threw 105 pitches and allowed three runs and six hits. Asdrubal Cabrera paced Cleveland with a pair of RBIs while Yan Gomes and Mike Aviles notched two hits apiece.
The game was tied at 3 in the fifth inning when Gillaspie's single off Carlos Carrasco (0-2) plated Eaton before Dayan Viciedo drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-3. Cleveland got within a run in the sixth, but Chicago quickly answered with two more runs on Gillaspie's double to left.
Michael Brantley's RBI single in the seventh drew the Indians within 7-5, but Ramirez delivered a run-scoring single in the bottom of the frame, giving him multiple hits for the fifth time in the last seven games. Eaton finished with three runs scored and Marcus Semien reached base three times and scored twice for Chicago.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Carrasco surrendered five runs and six hits over 4 2/3 innings. ... Indians RH Blake Wood came on in the eighth and walked four of the first five batters he faced, including Dunn with the bases loaded to force in Chicago’s final run. ... Ramirez (.429 average) has hit safely in all 11 games this season.
