Phillies 7, Giants 3: Michael Young and Carlos Ruiz each homered and John Lannan tossed seven strong innings as host Philadelphia snapped its eight-game losing streak.
Ruiz broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth with a two-run blast off Barry Zito (4-8), who surrendered four runs over 3 1/3 innings and fell to 0-7 with a 9.50 ERA in nine road starts. The Giants lost their fifth straight to fall a season-high 13 games under .500.
Lannan (3-4) bounced back from a rocky outing by allowing three runs on seven hits as the Phillies improved to 15-6 in their last 21 games at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia extended its lead in the sixth on Young’s two-run homer off Guillermo Moscoso.
John Mayberry Jr. added an RBI double in the seventh for the Phillies, who wrapped up a 1-8 road trip with a demoralizing 12-4 loss at Detroit on Sunday.
Giants first baseman Brett Pill, who was recalled from Triple-A Fresno before the game for the third time this season, went 3-for-4 in his first major-league game since June 12.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Philadelphia recalled 3B Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley before the game and designated OF Steve Susdorf for assignment. Asche popped out to second base in the seventh inning in his first major-league at-bat. … Ruiz homered for the first time this season after hitting 16 last year. … Giants C Buster Posey missed the game due to illness.
