Cardinals 6, Mets 3: Ty Wigginton scored the go-ahead run in the seventh and Matt Holliday added a two-run homer as St. Louis took the opener of a four-game set from visiting New York.

Matt Carpenter drove in two runs and scored twice in support of Lance Lynn (6-1), who threw a career-high 124 pitches and allowed three runs and four hits in seven innings. Allen Craig added two hits and an RBI for the Cardinals, who have won 10 of 12.

Daniel Murphy doubled in two runs and David Wright added an RBI single in a three-run second inning, but the Mets could not hold onto the lead as Carpenter singled in the tying run in the bottom of the second. Left-hander Scott Rice (1-3) suffered the loss in relief.

Wigginton reached second base when he flared a popup into shallow center that center fielder Rick Ankiel could not squeeze on a dive. Carpenter followed with a hard shot off Rice’s foot and Wigginton raced all the way home as the ball skipped into foul territory to score the go-ahead run.

Two batters later, Holliday greeted Scott Atchison with a two-run blast to left-center as the Cardinals pulled away. Edward Mujica worked a perfect ninth to earn his 10th save for St. Louis.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ankiel was signed by the Mets earlier in the day after being designated for assignment by the Houston Astros. Ankiel had to borrow a glove from LHP Jon Niese with his own gear still in Houston. … RHP Jeremy Hefner started for New York and allowed three runs and five hits in six innings. … St. Louis will give LHP prospect John Gast his first major-league start on Tuesday.
