Cardinals 4, Brewers 2: Matt Holliday broke up Wily Peralta's no-hit bid with a two-run homer in the sixth and Shelby Miller threw 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball to lead host St. Louis to its fourth straight win.
Matt Carpenter scored a run and drove in another for the Cardinals, who remained one game ahead of Pittsburgh in the National League Central. Matt Adams added two hits and an RBI for St. Louis.
Miller (13-9) struck out four and allowed five hits, beating the Brewers for the third time this season. Logan Schafer broke up the shutout with a one-out, two-run homer off Edward Mujica in the ninth.
Peralta retired seven straight before Pete Kozma reached on first baseman Jonathan Lucroy's error in the third. The rookie right-hander issued a one-out walk to Carpenter in the sixth and Holliday crushed a first-pitch fastball to left-center two batters later.
Carpenter made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the seventh against Mike Gonzalez, plating an inherited runner and closing the book on Peralta with three runs on two hits over 6 2/3 innings. Adams knocked in an insurance run with an RBI single in the eighth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Milwaukee LF Khris Davis sat out his fourth straight game with a sore left wrist and was limited to taking swings - no contact - because of the soreness. … Cardinals starting pitchers have recorded three straight scoreless outings for the first time since April 10-14. … Brewers RF Norichika Aoki struck out three times for the first time in his major-league career. Aoki entered the game averaging a strikeout every 17.2 at-bats, the best in the majors.
