Twins 4, Angels 3: Clete Thomas homered, drove in two runs and made a game-saving catch in left field as Minnesota began its seven-game road trip in impressive fashion.
Samuel Deduno worked seven solid innings and Aaron Hicks recorded two hits and an RBI for the Twins, who have won five of six.
Minnesota erased an early 1-0 deficit in the second inning, when Thomas and Hicks hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Los Angeles evened the contest in the third, but Thomas belted a one-out solo shot off Joe Blanton (2-13) in the fourth and Doug Bernier added an insurance run later in the frame with a double.
The Angels pulled within a run and nearly took the lead in the eighth, but Thomas timed his jump at the wall perfectly and robbed pinch-hitter Chris Iannetta of a three-run homer. The catch preserved the win for Deduno (6-4), who matched his career high in victories after allowing two runs on four hits and five walks. Glen Perkins recorded the final four outs for his 24th save.
Mike Trout registered two hits and an RBI for the Angels, who have lost two straight at home following a four-game winning streak at Angel Stadium. Blanton was reached for four runs and nine hits in only 3 2/3 innings as he suffered his major league-high 13th loss.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Bernier made the second start of his major-league career and first since June 19, 2008 while with Colorado. The RBI double was his first career hit. ... Trout's RBI single in the third extended his career-best hitting streak to 14 games. The 21-year-old finished with two hits. ... Minnesota improved to 3-0 against the Angels this season as it halted its five-game losing streak at Los Angeles.
