Astros 9, Yankees 1: Carlos Corporan homered and drove in four in his first career four-hit game while Lucas Harrell went 6 1/3 strong innings as visiting Houston crushed New York.
Brandon Barnes added three hits and three RBIs and Carlos Pena drove in a run for the Astros, who pounded out 17 hits in snapping a four-game losing streak. Harrell (3-2) allowed a run and eight hits to earn his third straight win.
Andy Pettitte (3-2) suffered the brunt of the damage for the Yankees, yielding seven runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Vernon Wells had an RBI single among his two hits for New York.
Houston jumped on Pettitte in the first inning with three straight two-out singles pushing across the first run. Ronny Cedeno walked in front of Corporan, who sent a double into right field to plate two more.
Barnes doubled in a pair in the fourth and the Astros put it away with a four-run outburst in the fifth. Pettitte allowed two of the first three to reach before Adam Warren came on and unleashed a wild pitch to score a run while Corporan followed by hooking a 2-2 changeup in the stands in right.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Harrell has allowed two or fewer runs in five of his six starts. … Yankees 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) sat for the eighth time in the last nine games. … Pettitte had not allowed seven or more earned runs since giving up nine in 5 1/3 innings to the Los Angeles Angels on July 31, 2008.
