Mariners 3, Astros 0: Kendrys Morales had two RBIs and Joe Saunders pitched 6 1/3 effective innings as Seattle won its home opener.
Saunders allowed six hits and struck out five while Michael Saunders had two hits and scored twice for the Mariners. Relievers Carter Capps and Charlie Furbush bridged the gap to closer Tom Wilhelmsen, who pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save.
Houston's Philip Humber (0-2) allowed three runs and five hits in six innings in his first appearance in Seattle since pitching the 21st perfect game in major
league history while with the Chicago White Sox last season. The Astros have lost six straight and scored nine runs during that span, including three shutouts.
Morales' roller up the middle scored Michael Saunders, who led off the first inning with a single and stole second. In the third, Michael Saunders singled with one out and scored on a two-out double into the left-center gap by Morales.
The Mariners took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning when Franklin Gutierrez laid down a well-placed safety squeeze bunt as Dustin Ackley beat Carlos Pena's throw
to the plate.
