Reds 4, Mets 0: Mike Leake pitched seven strong innings and Cincinnati took advantage of an error to score three runs in the first and clinch the series over host New York.
Leake (4-2) allowed three hits and walked a pair while striking out four in his second straight scoreless start. Devin Mesoraco provided some insurance with a solo homer in the ninth for the Reds.
Jon Niese (3-5) retired the first two batters he faced before loading the bases on two walks and a hit. Todd Frazier sent a sharp grounder to third that got between David Wright’s legs to plate two runs, and Niese eventually walked in another run before striking out Leake to end the frame.
Niese settled down and did not walk another batter throughout his six innings. He was charged with three unearned runs and five hits while striking out seven.
Lucas Duda and John Buck each doubled for the Mets, who finished with three hits and have totaled eight in the first two games of the series.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New York dropped 1B Ike Davis down to seventh in the lineup. He went 0-for-3 and is 1-for-36 over his last 10 games. … Reds 1B Joey Votto extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games but went 1-for-3 to snap his string of multi-hit games at four. … Cincinnati and the Mets will match up undefeated starters in the series finale on Wednesday, when Reds RH Mat Latos (4-0) faces off against New York RH Matt Harvey (5-0).
