Giants 9, Rockies 8: Brandon Belt homered and drove in a season-high four runs while Madison Bumgarner added a three-run blast as visiting San Francisco withstood a late comeback attempt to even the three-game series at one win apiece.
With the Rockies leading 4-0, Belt began the Giants' comeback with an RBI groundout in the fourth inning. Three batters later, Bumgarner belted his second home run of the season to knot the contest.
Belt put San Francisco ahead for good in the fifth with a two-run double and launched a two-out solo shot in the seventh for a 9-5 lead. Belt has collected 12 RBIs in his last nine contests for the Giants, who increased their lead over Los Angeles in the National League West to six games.
Carlos Gonzalez had an RBI single in the eighth and pinch hitter Tyler Colvin hit a two-out, two-run homer off Sergio Romo in the ninth to get Colorado within a run. Javier Lopez came on to retire pinch hitter Jason Giambi and notch his seventh save.
George Kontos (2-1) notched the win in relief of Bumgarner, who was tagged for five runs and 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Kontos struck out both of the batters he faced.
Reliever Carlos Torres (4-2) took the loss after surrendering four runs and four hits in two innings.
Jordan Pacheco and Chris Nelson each recorded an RBI and three of the 17 hits by the Rockies, who have lost seven of nine.
