Diamondbacks 5, Rockies 3: Aaron Hill belted a two-out, three-run homer in the ninth inning as host Arizona evened the season-ending three-game series between the National League West rivals at one win apiece.
With two out and one on, Gerardo Parra kept the Diamondbacks alive with a single off Rafael Betancourt (1-4), who blew his second save opportunity in as many nights. Hill then deposited the Colorado closer's first offering over the wall in left field for his third hit of the game and 26th blast of the season.
The homer made a winner of Brad Ziegler (6-1), who struck out two in a scoreless top of the ninth. It also bailed out reliever David Hernandez, who allowed two runs and three hits on his first five pitches of the eighth.
John McDonald hit a two-run shot and starter Patrick Corbin allowed one run in seven strong innings for Arizona, which had lost four of six.
Colorado starter Jhoulys Chacin scattered three hits over five scoreless innings while Corbin allowed one run and six hits in seven frames. Corbin surrendered 11 runs and 18 hits over nine innings in two previous outings against the Rockies this year.
Jordan Pacheco hit a two-run double in the eighth to provide a 3-2 lead for the Rockies, who have lost 10 of 11 on the road.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Chacin tossed five scoreless innings, marking the eighth time in nine starts he allowed three runs or less. ... Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt went 0-for-4, ending his 11-game hitting streak. ... Hill has hit safely in 14 of his last 17 games and recorded three hits four times in his last nine contests.
